...it's off to the Good Food and Wine Show we go! Yes, indeed! That time of the year again, when all gastronomically inclined Capetonians head off into the wild world of the Cape Town International Convention Centre to brave the crowds and see what's new, what's survived this ever-changing world, and who's who...
I mostly like to go on my own, because then I can do things at my own pace. I usually head straight for the gadget stalls, and stand there hyperventilating for about 12 minutes before I start fondling everything, reading about it, fantasising about having it in my kitchen, and trying to fight off the urges to rip open my purse and throw my morals away!
So, this morning I am exercising my best mind power skills before we leave home. I have had breakfast just so I can keep up my strengths. And I have been chanting the following phrases since early, "I don't need you! I don't need you! I am strong!" Hold thumbs...
There's a lot of hype around the event. We will be able to come face-to-face with a few famous chefs, like Gordon Ramsay. And everyone pushes to get to the front where the demonstrations are taking place to suck up the latest trends and styles.
Perhaps my outlook is too simple, but I believe that, like artists, we all have our own individual style that works for us. Cooking and presentation of your food is an artistic and creative expression after all. And, although trends come and go, it depends on what I feel when I am arranging food on the plate - it's like starting a painting with a clean canvas! And, if it looks great to me, then it is great!
Follow your own heart. Look and learn and explore. But, follow your own heart.
And, for those of you who will be missing it, I will report back on the latest trends, products, ideas, and mostly GADGETS! Watch this space...

Eh, tell me more about this gadgets. I want to know more? This is interest me. Is maybe a website where we can get this gadgets to buy from, as we get no cooking gadgets in Puerto. Freddy.
