This has been a crazy week - crazy but fun!  We were invited to the launch of a friend's recipe book.  Marlene van der Westhuizen produced one of the most exquisite recipe books I have seen in a long time.  It is called Delectable.  Make sure you get a copy (although they sold out every single copy halfway through Wednesday evening!)  Her style is relaxed and the recipes are simply delectable!  The photographs are exquisite and one feels like running home to try out the dishes immediately.

 

South African baking recipes

I find that one of the most amazing things to do, is to bake bread.  Somehow I get a kick out of watching the bread rise in the oven...  And there is nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread!  Every so often, when we are going to dinner at a friend's home, I will rip out one of my traditional 'South African baking recipes', fire up the oven, and arrive there with a hot loaf of bread, snuggly wrapped in a cloth.  The smell usually arrives at their front door before we do, and the resulting smile and welcome is worth it!  Why don't we adhere to good old fashioned values and ideas more often?
